General Relief is a local program that may offer limited financial support. Each community decides if the program is offered and how it is used based on local needs and available funding.
Most state funding for this program ended in 2012, so fewer people receive benefits today. Some limited support is still available, including help for certain children. Starting July 1, 2026, limited Burial Assistance will also be offered.
Local agencies choose how to provide support. This allows them to respond to the needs of their communities in a flexible way.
